Make Your Own Valentine
For children and teens on Tuesday, February 13th at 3:30PM. Make a special card or valentine design for the ones you love.
Adults Make a Valentine
Can’t come to the Valentine’s party on February 13th? There will be a special “Make a Valentine” event just for grown-ups on February 9th at 6:30pm! Relax, make Valentines, enjoy refreshments, and talk about the books you love to get in the spirit of Valentine’s Day. This event is free and open to the public. Questions? Learn How To Mend Books
Saturday, January 27th 10 - 11:30am
You know that repairing books takes special care. Come learn the techniques and correct materials to use to mend a broken spine, fix a torn page, and strengthen failing end papers. Materials will be provided. Instructors: Edie de Chadenèdes and Eve Burton. Please register at the San Juan Island Library reference desk. Free.
Literary Salon
A monthly gathering of folks who would like to share their love of books with others. This is a great place to recommend books and to get ideas for books to read. Come every month or whenever you feel like it; the literary salon is informal. The Salon meets once a month on the third Thursday of the month from 7PM until 8:30 PM. Talk Time Sessions - Practice Speaking English
Throughout the summer, practice speaking English at the library every Tuesday from 6:30PM to 7:45PM. Anyone learning to speak English is encouraged to attend. It's free and no registration is required. Denise Acsay, a Skagit Valley College English as a Second Language (ESL) mentor, and Adrienne Bourne, Outreach Library Assistant, will act as facilitators for the Talk Time sessions. Family Film Series
Beginning January 5th, the library will showcase family friendly movies Friday evenings at 6:30pm by the fireplace. Films being shown during this five week film series include:
January 5th – The Sound of Music
January 12th – Tom and Huck - cancelled due to snow
January 19th – Pollyanna
January 26th – Because of Wynn-Dixie
February 2nd – Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events

Celebrate Summer Reading and March in the 4th of July Parade with the Library. Come to the library on Friday, June 30th for Storytime and afterwards make an animal mask to wear in the parade. Mask Making will take place in the library's meeting room at 11:30AM.
Teen Summer Reading!
Read Books. Get Chocolate. It's that easy. Sign up at the library now. There will also be three programs offered for teens this summer. On Tuesday, July 11th, learn how to make hemp jewelry; on Tuesday, July 25th, discover Mehndi, the ancient art of henna paste tattoos; and on Tuesday, August 8th, make your own dreamcatcher. Teen Book Club
The next book club selection is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Books will be available at the reference desk for pick up by interested teens. Teens will meet to discuss the book, see the movie, and enjoy pizza generously supplied by the Friends of the Library on Saturday, July 22nd at 5:30 PM. Call Shannan at 378-2798 for more information.
Teen Anime Club
All interested teens are invited to join the teen anime club. The club meets on the 1st Tuesday of each month from 4 - 5PM in the library's meeting room. For more information, please call Shannan at 378-2798.

Infant and Toddler Lapsit and Linger
Parents are invited to join their children for stories, songs, and finger plays. After the half-hour program, linger over a snack and network while the kids play. Every Thursday at 10AM.
Preschool StoryTime
Parents are invited to join their preschool children for stories at the library. Every Friday from 10:30 - 11AM.
Summer Reading Program
Sign up begins on the last day of school, June 15th. The first program begins with Alleyoop, singer, storyteller, and puppeteer, on Wednesday, June 28th at 1:30PM . Go to the Summer Reading Page for more information.
Reading Buddies
The Reading Buddy program matches adult volunteers with elementary students for one-on-one reading time. Students benefit from individual attention and reading out loud with an adult. Click here for more details.
After School Read Aloud with Kathy Babbitt
Kathy will be reading Gail Carson Levine's new book, "Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg." Nutritious snacks will be provided by the Friends of the San Juan Island Library. This program begins at the library on Monday, October 16th at 3:15 and lasts about 1 hour. This book will be read over the course of 8 weeks finishing on December 4th. All elementary school aged children are welcome to join the fun.

The Library at the Farmer's Market
For three Saturdays (June 24th, July 22nd, and August 26th) this summer, a staff member from the library will be at the Farmer's Market from 10AM - 1PM to check out books on gardening, cooking, ecology and local tourism. At 11AM there will be story-time for kids. And if you don't have a library card, you can request a card. If you have any questions, please call Adrienne Bourne at 378-2798.
Art Show in the Library
The current show is the permanent collection. If you would like to participate in a show or have questions about the art shows, please call Sienna at 378-5183.
Computer Classes
Thursdays, 10 am in the Quiet Room. Starting July 6th
The skills taught in these classes are meant to build on one another so that when taken in succession the student will have a solid basis on which to further explore computers. Although the classes are meant to be taken in series, students may sign up for any class that meets their needs. Class size is limited so registration is required.
